Which cruise lines have the most sailings scheduled through 2030?
Last updated · figures from the Monday load of · published 2026-10-03
MSC Cruises has the most scheduled sailings through 2030, with 7,091 future departures in our 2026-09-28 load, ahead of Viking River Cruises (6,512) and Hurtigruten (5,368). Across 43 cruise lines we count 61,010 sailings, but lines publish only about two years ahead: 2029 and later hold just 1,635.
MSC Cruises leads every cruise line on scheduled sailings. Cruise Itinerary counted each future departure on sale in its register on 2026-09-28, 61,010 sailings from 2026-09-29 to 2030-10-02 on 517 ships, and grouped them by line and by year of departure. A sailing is one departure of one ship, so a line running many short trips counts more sailings than a line running fewer long voyages.
Which cruise lines have the most scheduled sailings?
MSC Cruises has the most future sailings on sale, 7,091 departures on 25 ships, followed by Viking River Cruises with 6,512 and Hurtigruten with 5,368. Those three lines hold 31.1% of all 61,010 scheduled sailings across 43 cruise lines in the Cruise Itinerary register on 2026-09-28.
The full table counts every line, with its ships, its sailings by year of departure and the date of its last scheduled sailing. 2026 starts at 2026-09-29, so it covers only the rest of that year.

How many cruise sailings are scheduled each year to 2030?
Scheduled sailings peak in 2027, with 29,889 departures from 43 lines, then thin out: 2028 has 22,132, 2029 has 1,523 and 2030 has 112. The drop reflects how far ahead lines publish schedules, not a shrinking industry: 27 of 43 lines have nothing on sale after 2029-03-28.
- 2026: 7,354 sailings on 473 ships from 42 lines
- 2027: 29,889 sailings on 501 ships from 43 lines
- 2028: 22,132 sailings on 485 ships from 41 lines
- 2029: 1,523 sailings on 80 ships from 20 lines
- 2030: 112 sailings on 11 ships from 1 line
Treat any year beyond the next as a floor. Sailings appear in the register when lines put them on sale, so the count for 2028 will keep rising through 2027 as lines such as Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line and Princess Cruises release new seasons.
Which cruise lines have the most sailings in 2027?
2027 is the first full calendar year in the register, and MSC Cruises schedules the most sailings in it, 3,392 departures. Hurtigruten follows with 3,074 and Viking River Cruises with 2,970. Together the top three account for 31.6% of the 29,889 sailings scheduled for 2027.
Among the large ocean lines, Royal Caribbean has 1,943, Carnival Cruise Line has 1,734, Norwegian Cruise Line has 1,044, Princess Cruises has 1,022 sailings scheduled for 2027. Short cruises raise a line's count: 47.2% of Royal Caribbean's and 48.0% of Carnival Cruise Line's 2027 sailings last five nights or fewer.
Which cruise lines already sell sailings for 2029 and later?
21 cruise lines had sailings departing in 2029 or later on sale on 2026-09-28, 1,635 departures in all. Viking River Cruises schedules furthest ahead, with a last departure on 2030-10-02. Lines that publish this early are mostly luxury, expedition and river operators, along with a few ocean lines opening their next seasons.
- Viking River Cruises: 112 sailings from 2029, last departure 2030-10-02
- American Cruise Lines: 227 sailings from 2029, last departure 2029-12-30
- Viking Ocean Cruises: 487 sailings from 2029, last departure 2029-10-30
- Windstar Cruises: 23 sailings from 2029, last departure 2029-06-05
- Regent Seven Seas Cruises: 61 sailings from 2029, last departure 2029-05-27
- Oceania Cruises: 67 sailings from 2029, last departure 2029-05-05
- Seabourn: 75 sailings from 2029, last departure 2029-05-02
- Atlas Ocean Voyages: 10 sailings from 2029, last departure 2029-05-01
- Carnival Cruise Line: 45 sailings from 2029, last departure 2029-04-30
- SeaDream Yacht Club: 30 sailings from 2029, last departure 2029-04-28
The 21 lines are shown furthest-dated first, up to ten. A line missing from this list may still plan 2029 cruises; it has not put them on sale yet.
Every one of the 112 sailings departing in 2030 is built around the Oberammergau Passion Play, which the Bavarian village has staged every tenth year since a vow made in 1633 (Passionsspiele Oberammergau). That one event is why the register reaches into 2030.
Which cruise lines have the most ships with scheduled sailings?
Viking River Cruises has the most ships with future sailings, 84 vessels, because river fleets run many small ships. Royal Caribbean has the most ocean ships with sailings on sale, 31. Ships are counted when at least one future sailing is scheduled, so ships under construction without sailings on sale are not included.
- Viking River Cruises: 84 ships, 6,512 sailings
- AmaWaterways: 31 ships, 3,199 sailings
- Royal Caribbean: 31 ships, 3,005 sailings
- Carnival Cruise Line: 30 ships, 2,856 sailings
- MSC Cruises: 25 ships, 7,091 sailings
- Norwegian Cruise Line: 22 ships, 2,084 sailings
- Celebrity Cruises: 20 ships, 1,783 sailings
- Lindblad Expeditions: 20 ships, 2,613 sailings
A ship sold, retired or transferred to a sister brand drops out of a line's count when its last sailing under that line departs. Ship specifications, identifiers and each ship's schedule are available through the Cruise Itinerary API.
Why do sailing counts favor river and coastal lines?
A sailing count rewards frequent departures, not size. Hurtigruten runs daily coastal voyages along Norway, and river lines such as Viking River Cruises and AmaWaterways run week-long trips on many small ships. A single Royal Caribbean or MSC Cruises sailing can carry more than ten times as many guests as a river ship.
Use the count to answer "how much schedule exists", not "how many people will cruise". For capacity, multiply sailings by each ship's lower berths, which the API returns per ship. The count also depends on our supplier feed:
- It covers the 43 lines in the register. TUI and Marella, AIDA, Saga, Fred. Olsen and Hapag-Lloyd have no sailings in the feed, so UK and German lines are under-counted.
- Combination voyages that a line sells alongside their own segments appear as sailings of their own, so one ship's calendar can be counted more than once.
- Counts change each Monday as sailings depart, new seasons open and lines cancel or add departures. See Hurtigruten or Viking for their published schedules.
Key takeaways
- MSC Cruises has the most scheduled sailings, 7,091, ahead of Viking River Cruises and Hurtigruten.
- 2027 is the busiest year on sale, with 29,889 sailings; later years are thin because lines publish about two years ahead.
- Only 21 lines sell departures in 2029 or later; Viking River Cruises schedules furthest, to 2030-10-02.
- Sailing counts favor river and coastal lines with frequent short departures; they measure schedule, not passenger capacity.
- UK and German lines such as TUI, Marella, AIDA, Saga, Fred. Olsen and Hapag-Lloyd are missing from the feed and are not counted.
Frequently asked questions
Which cruise line has the most ships?
By ships with future sailings on sale, Viking River Cruises leads with 84, because river fleets run many small vessels. Among ocean lines, Royal Caribbean has the most, 31 ships. Counts come from the 2026-09-28 load and include only ships with at least one scheduled departure, so ships still under construction are left out.
How far in advance do cruise lines publish their schedules?
Usually about two years. In our 2026-09-28 load, 27 of 43 lines have nothing on sale after 2029-03-28, and only 21 lines sell anything departing in 2029 or later. 2028 has 22,132 sailings against 29,889 for 2027. Luxury, expedition and river lines publish earliest.
Does more sailings mean a bigger cruise line?
No. A sailing is one departure of one ship, whatever its size or length. Hurtigruten and the river lines rank high because they run frequent departures on small ships, while one Royal Caribbean or MSC Cruises sailing can carry several thousand guests. For capacity, weight each sailing by the ship's lower berths.
Where does this cruise schedule data come from?
From Cruise Itinerary's register, which loads every future sailing from a cruise supplier feed each Monday and keeps day-by-day itineraries, ships and weekly fares. It covers 43 cruise lines. The counts on this page are recomputed after every load, and the date at the top shows which load they come from.
